Ways You Can Give Them What They Want

If you could win a trip anywhere in the world, where would it be? What would it include? Why would you choose this destination?

We asked our youth community their opinion on travel as a promotional incentive, check out some of their comments:

"If I were to have the opportunity to go anywhere I wanted … I would go to the Greek Islands. I think that the Greek Islands would be a great place to visit because … the weather would be very nice … I think it would be a nice get away to go on a vacation there during the winter … The beaches would be relaxing, and the towns full of interesting new things. It is always good to take in a bit of new culture too …I would want to go with a group of 5-10 friends, with an all inclusive resort package, so that things would be pretty much sorted out for us once we got there. Rather than staying in one place, I would definitely want to travel around the islands and explore everything that they have to offer."

"I think my choice for winning a trip any where in the world would be Rwanda and Tanzania. I am a primatology student so seeing the research sites where Jane Goodall and the late Dian Fossey did their research would be very inspirational to me … The diversity of wildlife is fabulous-from the famous chimpanzees and mountain gorillas, to red colubus monkeys and other monkeys, to lions, ostriches, zebras, baboons, (on the savannas of Tanzania) and elephants. Phenomenal! I also would like to experience the warm climate of Africa."

"I love the idea of a tropical island. Although the whole US-big-city-go-see-a-basketball-game-and-eat-expensive-sandwhiches idea is pretty cool as well, I'd rather go to a place where I could feel total relaxation-no computers or highways, etc. …The perfect trip would be to a five-star resort, all-inclusive, with good-tasting and non-Pepto-requiring cuisine, a basketball court, a beach, and an ocean. Good, clean rooms, friendly people, that's it."

"First I'd have to narrow it down to some place hot. If I won a vacation somewhere I would want it to be a warm tropical place, (a pleasant change from the dreary Vancouver climate!). Secondly I'd narrow it down to some place with a beach, surrounded with turquoise ocean water. (I've been meaning to get into scuba diving and a place with a beautiful ocean filled with tropical fish would be an amazing place to dive.) Thirdly I'd want it to be a place far away from a big city. I've done that scene already (New York, LA.) Basically I've narrowed it down to a tropical island, perhaps somewhere on the coast of Belize, or Fiji. This prize vacation would include the following: a room in a very expensive, 5-star resort (one where each guest has there own separate cabin), it has to be all-inclusive (the food will be more exotic, and tasty than the types of food at most Club Med type all-inclusive resorts). You will have the option to try scuba diving, hand gliding, or parasailing. At the resort there will be a dance club so you can dance as the sun sets until the sun rises again. The prize package will be for the winner and 10 friends, and it will last for 2 weeks or maybe I'd have it last a lot longer... "

Youthography Perspective

As Nitasha mentioned in her article, youth expect an enigmatic combination of exotic locales and experiences mixed with a level of comfort they are used to in their homeland when they get to thinking about vacations.

Prizing will always need to more than cover the basics of comfort and quality (usually deluxe) but make sure to do this within current ideas of what types of destinations are cool.

Adding levels of experience into the prizing package that speak to your brand are always encouraged and will be accepted by your youth targets and winners.

Finally, how about turning your vacation winners into documentarians?

This will provide you with always-needed content for your site and communication messages.

It will also provide you with another opportunity to connect with your target via a follow-up on the contest. Give it legs.
